Initial setup
Setting up the GCS Retail Management System requires you to follow certain logical steps.
First of all, the DBMS that GCS uses must be installed. Since this is basically a once in a lifetime installation, we feel that you as a customer, do not need to learn how to do this. The learning curve is fairly steep and is not worth the effort for one installation. We at GCS, have already gone through the learning stage and can install the DBMS in a very short time for you.
Secondly, GCS applications have to be installed. Again, we at GCS, have the knowledge to quickly do this install , and feel that it is your interest to let us do this for you.
Finally, once the DBMS and the APPLICATIONS have been installed, you must initialize the data that will control your specific system requirements and also display certain common data on your screen and print it on various reports from Customer Statements to Inventory Reports.
We have attempted to keep our menu choices grouped to make them intuitive. You may find the layouts strange at first, but later they will be come second nature to you.
Setup Security
GCS uses a security program, that is simple to use and very versatile. When your system is first installed, it is installed with only the GCS SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR whose code is ADMIN as a user who has access to everything. We strongly suggest, that you place a UNIQUE password on this user before doing anything else. This process was described in initial steps
Go to SECURITY SETUP
Enter Company Name
The next thing you must do, is to enter your company information so that all other screens and reports may use it. The program to do this is found in our UTILITIES menu that contains many, many program choices that may or may not be common to various modules of the system. The MASTER UTILITIES menu can be accessed from the MASTER MENU by depressing 6 from the keyboard. We know that asking you to choose #6 as the first thing to do does not seem logical, but once your system is up and running, accessing this menu will not be a top priority choice, and therefore is simply further down the line.
