Grendata Computer Systems
Initial Steps
If you have not done so already, please return to the terminology to review the way we explain things.
For now we will assume that you are using our system as setup by GCS.
This means that you now have Windows 2000 server (or professional) , jBase, and GCS applications loaded on a PC that you have designated solely for the purpose of running your POS system. We will refer to this PC as "THE SERVER" . The server will be attached to your LAN and will have a FIXED IP ADDRESS so that other PCs running TERMINAL EMULATORS might find it easily. Even if you are running only the server, this computer will also have a terminal emulator installed (even if it is "hyperterminal" that is supplied with Windows). This terminal emulator will set up as a "tcp/ip" connection with the ip address pointing to the server, and using port 23.
You should be able to sit at the computer running this emulator, open it up, and then depress the <enter> key once. This action should "wake up" the system and you should see a prompt that says "Account Name". At this point, you should enter POS. Then you will be prompted with "password:". Simply depress <enter> here. If later on you want to place a windows password on the POS login , you may do so at any time. For now, leave it blank
Now you should see the MASTER MENU on your screen, and it looks like this EXCEPT, we have already changed out user code as outlined below.

When you first log on, if you look closely at the bottom left of this screen you will see Current User is POS. Since POS is not a legitimate user of the system, you now have to Change the user code by choosing option "V. Change user" by typing V . When the system prompts you to Enter your code, enter ADMIN<
Now , if you look closely at the bottom of the screen, it says Current User is ADMIN. The screen shot above is at this point. You can password protect ADMIN before anybody else tries to use it.
Choose option "I. MODIFY USER PASSWORD (that's like a capital i), by typing I This takes you to the password update routine. This sounds strange, but you now have to enter your user code again (ADMIN). Now you must enter your current password.
Since this is a new installation (i.e. a new user too), the password is blank, so just depress <ENTER>. Next you must enter your chosen password, and then re-enter it for verification. WARNING... do not use numbers in your password, and remember that it is case sensitive.
You are now ready to move on to Security Setup. To do so, choose option "9. SECURITY", by typing 9. You will then be prompted for your password. This is the password that you just entered above. If you did not enter a password, just use <enter>. SEE HOW EASY IT IS FOR SOMEBODY ELSE TO GET INTO YOUR STUFF IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PASSWORD.
After you have completed the above, you will be transported to Security Setup
Once you have completed the initial security setup, you will begin to set up all the flags and guide lines for your working system.
