Thank-you for choosing Grendata Computer Systems Retail Management System to assist you with managing your company.
GCS has been in business since 1983, and over the years has evolved into a Software Manufacturer. We feel our software is amongst the best in North America, if not in the world.
We would like to thank STELLA for all her dedication to testing, suggesting enhancements. Without her help and guidance, this program would not be what it is today. We would also like to acknowledge our customers, who actually used this program while it was a work in progress, and who didn't complain when things didn't go just quite right. Last but not least, we thank our spouses and family who lived several years of their lives without us while we toiled into the wee small hours of the morning to make everything come together.
You will notice that once your system is installed and running that it is NOT A GUI. (GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE) This means that you cannot use a mouse. Everything is "text based". We seriously feel at this point , that our system is simply faster without all the extra baggage of graphics. For example, it is much easier to tap one key on the keyboard to jump from one menu to another than it is to reach for a mouse that might be under a pile of paper or on a rough surface, attempt to point to something on the screen and then depress the mouse button or a button on your keyboard anyway. It is not uncommon for our present users to be working on the next page, even before it appears on the screen. This is impossible with GUIs .
Also, when working in a LAN environment, using our system requires much less LAN traffic than when using the GUI screen.
If you are using this help because you just purchased our system, then we strongly suggest that you follow the steps as outlined below to get your system up and running with as little aggravation as possible. Any new software worth using always has a learning curve.
Please be aware that this whole suite of programs is constantly changing because of suggestions from users. We will endeavour to keep our help files in step with the actual program, but if you find something "doesn't add up", please contact us and let us know.
Before continuing, please be sure to read items regarding FIELD EDITING and TERMINOLOGY
You should start with Initial Setup and follow all instructions as closely as possible.
Note that this help file actually uses some settings from your Internet Explorer, namely the coloring of the links when a new link is visited. In order to make this help coloring reasonable, you should probably set your "days to keep history" to 0 or 1 unless you really want it higher for your internet browsing.
Once you have completed the initial setup you should move to Initializing Data and Parameter Files
